It's time for our P.U.S.H. (Pets United to Save Humans) campaign. Many of our humans decided to give up smoking for the New Year. Quitting smoking is a great way to start the New Year. Unfortunately, some of our humans need a little help to keep them from starting again. Here are my ten tips to help your humans keep their New Year's resolution to quit smoking.

1. When you see your human getting ready to light up, distract them by jumping in their lap and licking their face. Make sure you do it before they light up so you don't get burned.

2. Hide the cigarettes where they can't find them. Underground would be a good spot. But make sure kids can't find them either.

3. Accidentally having a cigarette fall in the litter box is a sure-fire way to keep it from being smoked.

4. When your human or visitor lights up, start to growl really loudly. Don't stop growling until they get the hint.

5. If you're too late, and your human is already smoking, bark or hiss, or if you are a fish, I guess the best you can do is gurgle. Make the noise as soon as you smell smoke, and keep making it until the smoker puts it out.

6. Share your snacks. Sometimes a snack will help end the urge to smoke.

7. Be real supportive. Be patient. When a human quits smoking, they can get irritable.

8. Practice coughing and sneezing. Do it often when your human or a guest is smoking.

9. Sometimes when we are sleeping in the laps of our humans they don't want to disturb us. Make sure the cigarettes are in another room. Climb into their lap, and plan to stay there for as long as possible.

10. Follow them from room to room. When they realize we are helping them quit, they may try to hide and smoke.
